Worksafe Victorian Classic to crown champions at Bells Beach / Djarrak

Published on 17/10/2025

The top Victorian open surfers will arrive at Bells Beach on Saturday for the WorkSafe Victorian Classic to crown State Open Champions for 2025.

The event will see over 50 competitors battle it out for over $5,000 in cash and prizes across the weekend as well as a coveted spot in the Rip Curl Pro Trials.

With one of the biggest draws in recent history for the Open Men, competition will be fierce for the cash prize and spot in the Trials.

Surfers to watch for the weekend include reigning Open Champion Lucas Hickson (Rye) who is coming into the event in top form after winning the TAC Tradies Challenge at URBNSURF last weekend.

Lucas will be joined by fellow Mornington Peninsula surfer Ava Holland who is also coming off an event win at the Rip Curl GromSearch on Phillip Island and will be one to watch all weekend.

“This is an exciting time for Open surfing in the state,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“With the new format and event as well as having WorkSafe on as major partner, we are looking forward to re-vitalising open surfing and scoring some great waves at Bells.”

Surfing Victoria official surf forecaster Surfline is calling for a good swell on Saturday morning with early offshore winds before light seabreezes take over in the afternoon. Sunday will see that swell slowly fade with offshore winds.

First call for competition will be made on Saturday morning at 7am for a 7.30am start. All communication for competitors will be made via the Surfing Victoria WhatsApp group.
