Australian Boardriders Battle Returns to Phillip Island for Victorian Showdown

Phillip Island, VIC (Sunday, October 4th, 2026): Victorian boardrider clubs are preparing for battle as the third stop on the Australian Boardriders Battle series heads to Phillip Island on Victoria’s Bass Coast this Sunday.
The 14th season of the acclaimed Australian Boardriders Battle series will see the search for the country’s best boardriding clubs continue, with a mix of seasoned professionals, former professionals and the next generation of rising stars set to represent their clubs.
Eight of Victoria’s premier boardriders clubs will go head-to-head in the one-day event, showcasing the depth of talent across the state. With stacked teams featuring seasoned professionals through to up-and-coming surfers, clubs will battle it out in the team-based ABB format, with every surfer looking to put valuable points on the board for their club and secure their place on the road to the 2027 Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final, set to be held at Burleigh Heads, Queensland, in March 2027.
The Victorian field will feature Bells Beach Wildcards Lucas Hickson of Peninsula Surfriders Club and Tully Wylie of Torquay Boardriders Club, adding further firepower to an already strong field. Peninsula Surfriders Club will also have Ava Holland in their ranks, with the young surfer entering the event as the 2025 Phillip Island Rip Curl GromSearch Champion, highlighting the depth of talent coming through the Victorian boardriding scene.
From established professionals to emerging talent, the Victorian ABB round will showcase the full breadth of club surfing, with teams relying on every member to contribute as they battle for regional honours and a place on the road to the national final.
Phillip Island Boardriders Club will enter the event as the defending Victorian champions after taking out last year’s round on home turf, finishing ahead of Peninsula Surfriders Club and Jan Juc Boardriders Club. With the event returning to Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island will be looking to go back-to-back in front of their home crowd.
Contest Director Jordie Campbell says the depth of the Victorian field, combined with Phillip Island’s home-ground advantage, is set to make for a highly competitive day of team surfing:
“The Victorian ABB round brings together some of the best clubs in the state, and with seven teams lining up at Phillip Island, we’re expecting a seriously competitive day of team surfing. ABB is about more than individual results — it’s about surfers putting points on the board for their club and backing each other through every heat. Phillip Island will be looking to go back-to-back after taking the win last year, and with the event on their home turf, they’ll have the added motivation of putting on a strong performance in front of their local crowd. It’s shaping up to be a great day of team surfing.”

The top eight clubs from today’s ABB Regional Qualifier have now earned their place at the Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final presented by NRMA Insurance, set to take place at Burleigh Heads in March 2027.
The Victorian ABB field will feature Peninsula Surfriders Club, Torquay Boardriders Club, Jan Juc Boardriders Club, South Coast Boardriders Club, 13th Beach Boardriders Club, Point Lonsdale Boardriders Club and Phillip Island Boardriders Club, with each club looking to put together the strongest possible team and secure a place in the next stage of the ABB series.
The action will get underway at Phillip Island, on Sunday, October 4, with clubs set to battle it out for Victorian honours and valuable points on the road to the 2027 Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final at Burleigh Heads, Queensland, in March 2027.
The ABB’s unique ‘tag team’ format sees clubs nominate 2 x Open Men, 1 x Open Woman, 1 x Master (Over 35), and 1 x Junior (Under 18) to compete. Each surfer’s best wave counts toward their team’s total before they sprint up the beach to tag in the next teammate.
The Australian Boardriders Battle Victorian round will kick off at approximately 7:30am (AEST) on Sunday, October 4th at Cape Woolamai, Phillip Island, VIC.
