The 2025 TAC Tradies Challenge has been run and won for another year bringing together tradies from across the state for a day of surfing at URBNSURF Melbourne.
Surfers revelled in the perfect URBNSURF Waves whilst completing games on the land and winning prizes thanks to partners TAC, Rusty, Vitality Brands and Surfers for Climate.
In his first time in the event, the Mornington Peninsula’s Lucas Hickson showed his impressive talent in the pool with a series of massive turns and innovative airs on his way to an Open Mens victory.
“It was a good final and there was heaps of good surfing going down”, said Hickson. “Im happy to get the win over some mates at URBNSURF!”
Hickson finished on a final heat total of 17.50 points (out of a possible 20), finishing in second was 2024 champion Ethan Huxtable (Jan Juc) on 17.33 points.
Joel Wookey finished in third on 14.53 points with Jake Pancic finishing in fourth on 12.70 points.
The Bodyboard final was an incredible display of bodyboarding with eventual winner Ryan Jucker (Hampton East), locking in a heat total of 18.87 points making him back to back winner in the event.
Jucker was dominant scoring two near perfect waves, a 9.70 and 9.17 with a series of deep tube rides and spins.
Rui Mateus (Ivanhoe) finished in second place with 16.27 points, with former event champion Jacques La Roux (Gladstone Park) finishing in third on 14.20 points. Kyle Anderson (Frankson) finished in fourth on 13.16 points.
The Masters Division saw the dominance of Callan Cross (Jan Juc) again winning his fourth tradie title in the Masters division. Swinging backhand hammers all day, Cross couldnt be stoped by former event champs Ross Dart and Sean McDevvit.
Cross finished with a heat total of 14.50 points ahead of Ross Dart (Torquay) who finished on 12.27 points.
Luke Beerling (Dromana) placed in third on 11.83 points with Sean McDevitt (Rosebud) on 11.70 points.
