Victoria’s premier state surfing event is set to return to the iconic Bells Beach / Djarrak this spring, with the WorkSafe Victorian Classic scheduled for 17–18 October 2026.
Hosted by Surfing Victoria, the WorkSafe Victorian Classic will once again bring together the state’s top surfers across Open and Junior divisions to compete at one of the world’s most celebrated surfing locations. The event is expected to attract Victoria’s leading emerging and elite athletes as they battle for the Victorian State Title, a spot in the Rip Curl Pro Trials, the opportunity to test themselves in world-class waves and the $5,000 prize pool.
The return of the WorkSafe Victorian Classic continues a long-standing partnership between WorkSafe Victoria and Surfing Victoria, with a shared commitment to promoting safety, wellbeing, and positive participation in surfing and coastal communities.
Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson said the event remains one of the most significant competitions on the Victorian surfing calendar.
“The WorkSafe Victorian Classic is one of the cornerstone events of our competition calendar and an important part of the Victorian surfing pathway,” Robertson said.
“Bells Beach / Djarrak is the spiritual home of Australian surfing, and it provides an incredible stage for our athletes to compete. We’re excited to see Victoria’s best surfers return to Bells and continue the tradition of high-quality state competition.”
The event will feature Open Men and Women showcasing the depth of talent across Victoria’s surfing community. With strong performances often leading to selection opportunities and national pathway progression, the WorkSafe Victorian Classic plays a vital role in athlete development.
Beyond the competition, the event celebrates Victoria’s surfing culture and connection to the coast, drawing competitors, families, clubs, and supporters from across the state to the Surf Coast.
The competition will be held at Bells Beach / Djarrak, with nearby backup locations available if required. Final scheduling and event updates will be provided closer to the event through Surfing Victoria’s official channels.
WorkSafe Victoria’s support of the event reinforces the importance of safe participation in sport and recreation, helping to create positive experiences for competitors, officials, volunteers, and spectators alike.
Entries for the WorkSafe Victorian Classic will open through Surfing Victoria’s competition platform from Friday 21st August.
