The WorkSafe Tradies Challenge presented by Fagg’s Mitre 10 and Belmont Timber has been cancelled midway through the event today due to extreme wind creating un-safe conditions for the event.
After great conditions throughout the morning with a small clean swell and some incredible surfing, a South-West front hit the event site deteriorating the waves to be no longer contestable and becoming unsafe.
“The safety of our competitors and staff is of utmost importance” said Contest Director Cahill Bell-Warren.
“We had a beautiful morning with a fun sized swell and clean offshore winds. However when the front hit it was clear that the event could not continue.”
“Thank you to all competitors and event partners for their patience and assistance throughout the day.”
Competitors will be contacted in the next week with further details.
Round 1 of the Victorian Open Series which was due to be held on Sunday has also been postponed due to the deteriorating weather which is forecast to continue into tomorrow. The event will be re-scheduled to a later date that will be communicated in the coming weeks.
The 2020 WorkSafe Tradies Challenge is presented by Fagg’s Mitre 10 and Belmont Timber and supported by Kieser Australia, Coastalwatch, City to Surf Mobile Café, Rocktape Australia and 4Pines Torquay.
