The 2022 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Series will get underway from September 3rd in Kiama, New South Wales.
The event series will cover the country across ten events culminating in an epic National Final at the Hyundai Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (HPC) across the weekend of December 16th through 18th.
Approximately eighty competitors are expected to enter each stop in the series (with approximately fifty competitors expected in South Australia and Tasmania), which will see some of the nation’s future champions competing for top honours.
Woolworths Head of Community & Sponsorships, Sarah De La Mare said “As Today’s Fresh Food People, we’re committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Australian kids.
“While this series helps to develop groms in a fun and competitive surfing environment, it also educates kids and families about natural connections between healthy eating habits through Australian sport, to help them play their best and follow their heroes’ footsteps – If you pick fresh, you play fresh!
“We look forward to another exciting year of Australian junior surfing and supporting the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps kicking off in the warmer months.”
Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia over summer.
Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater said: “The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series is a critical stepping stone for aspiring pro surfers and it’s a great introduction to competition surfing with an element of fun! We look forward to seeing the country’s best young surfers in action again in 2022.”
As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses-paid, three-day Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps National Final Surf Camp, (1-day coaching clinic, 2 days of competition and heat analysis coaching) at the Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC).
For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective State.
Each division of the 2022 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps has been added to the 2022 Surfing Australia National Junior Rankings with each event rated at 4500pts for first place with points descending respectively. A result at this event will contribute to a competitor’s overall National Junior Ranking.
