Woolworths Junior Surfing Titles to open at the iconic Bells Beach

Published on 01/03/2024

The iconic Bells Beach will host the opening round of the Woolworths Junior Surfing Titles this weekend on Wadawurrung Country.

Over 80 of the next generation of surfing stars will gather at the World Tour location to duel it out for ratings points with the aim to make the Victorian Surfing Team that heads to the Australian Junior Surfing Titles later in the year.

Notable surfers competing at the event this weekend include last years event champions Ava Holland (Mornington Peninsula) and Jerry Kelly (Barwon Heads).

“It’s amazing to be able to hold the opening round of the series at Bells Beach, said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“The Woolworths Victorian Junior Series is a fantastic stepping stone for juniors to get experience in quality waves and put them on the path to the world tour.”

“To have the chance to compete at a World Tour venue as a junior is an incredible opportunity for Victorians and will give them a great experience.”

The swell forecast for the weekend will challenge competitors with strong swell building throughout the weekend and onshore winds. Competition is expected to be held at Bells Beach on Saturday for the Under 16 and Under 18 Divisions, before shifting to Torquay Point on Sunday for the younger divisions.

Surfing will begin at 7:30am on Saturday with a call to be made at Bells Beach. Keep an eye on the Surfing Victoria social media accounts for updates on starting times and locations.

Heat draws and live scores can be found at www.surfingvic.com/live across the 2-day event.

The Woolworths Victorian Junior Titles is supported by No TXT No Wrecks, VicRoads Community Safety Grants, Cancer Council Sunscreen and Surfing Victoria.
