Victoria’s best stand-up paddleboarders and masters surfers delivered an action-packed weekend of competition as the 2026 Kieser Victorian SUP and Masters Titles wrapped up across the Surf Coast.
Held at Point Impossible on Saturday and Jan Juc on Sunday, competitors were treated to quality conditions as state champions were crowned across a range of divisions.
The weekend began with the Kieser Victorian SUP Titles at Point Impossible, where clean conditions and long running walls provided the perfect canvas for some of the state’s best stand-up paddle surfers to showcase their talent.
Leading the way in the marquee Open Men SUP division was Matt Takle, who claimed the Victorian title after a standout day of competition. Takle consistently found the best waves throughout the event and delivered under pressure in the final, edging out a stacked field featuring Sandy Ryan, Koyu Matsunaga and Steve Toy.
Takle’s ability to link together powerful rail turns and critical manoeuvres on the open face proved the difference in a closely contested final. Sandy Ryan finished runner-up after another strong performance, while Matsunaga and Toy rounded out the final placings after impressive campaigns throughout the event.
“The standard of surfing has lifted again this year compared to years gone by, its really great to see and be part of,” said Takle.
“It started off a bit slow for me this morning, but i eventually got into rhythm and got a couple of good waves in the final, so im stoked.”
In the Open / Over 40 Women SUP division, Lucy Bell was crowned Victorian Champion in the Over 40s following a composed performance in the final. Bell adapted well to the changing conditions and displayed smart wave selection to secure victory. Sarah McKenzie-Crawford finished first and crowned the Open Womens SUP Title..
Other standout SUP performances across the weekend included Sandy Ryan taking out the Over 40 Men SUP division, Brendan Ryan claiming victory in the Over 50 Men SUP, and Damien Quinlan securing the Over 60 Men SUP title.
Sunday then saw attention shift to Jan Juc for the Victorian Masters Titles, where experienced surfers from across the state battled for honours in classic Surf Coast conditions.
One of the highlights of the Masters Titles came in the highly competitive Over 30 Men division, where Jarvis Cininas claimed the Victorian title for the second year running following a strong and consistent performance throughout the event.
“It was a really fun final,” said Cininas. “There was some good competition between the guys in the water even though conditions were challenging.”
“It always feels great to take out a win. Seeing the conditions I wasnt super confident, but that made it more special when I did win.”
Cininas combined experience, patience and excellent wave selection to secure victory ahead of Tim Birne, Ross Dart and Luke Beerling in the final.
The Over 40 Men division delivered another closely fought showdown, with Tim Birnie emerging victorious after an excellent display of high-performance surfing. Birnie used the clean Surf Coast conditions to full effect, posting some of the strongest scores of the division across the day.
Marcus Eldridge finished runner-up behind Birnie, while Luke Beerling and Arthur McKenzie also impressed in progressing through a highly competitive draw.
The Over 40 Womens saw Clare Eldridge take out the state title over 2025 Champion Tiffany Riggs. In the tricky surf Eldridge was able to best last years champion in a close affair.
“It was a really fun heat,” said Eldridge. “It was challenging conditions but everyone was having fun in the water and we all got some waves.’“
“I came second last year by just .2 of a point, so it was great to win this year.”
Additional Masters Titles winners included Craig Lloyd in both the Over 50 and Over 55 Men divisions, Rowan Sapwell in the Over 60 Men division and Joe Cervi in the Over 65 Men division.
Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson praised the level of competition and the atmosphere across the weekend.
“The Kieser Victorian SUP and Masters Titles were an incredible showcase of surfing talent and community across the Surf Coast,” said Robertson.
“These events are such an important part of the Victorian surfing calendar because they celebrate the diversity and longevity of our surfing community. From elite SUP competitors to experienced masters surfers, everyone brought an amazing level of passion and commitment.”
Robertson also acknowledged the ongoing support of naming rights partner Kieser, alongside event staff, judges and volunteers who helped deliver the championships.
“With the support of Kieser and the broader surfing community, these events continue to grow each year and provide incredible opportunities for Victorian surfers to compete at a state level,” he said.
The results from the weekend will help shape Victorian representation at upcoming national events later this year.
