Victorian Micro Groms Cup returns to Torquay to showcase next generation of Victorian surfing talent

Published on 16/09/2026

The next generation of Victorian surfing talent will descend on the Surf Coast this November, with the Victorian Micro Groms Cup set to return to Torquay Point on November 14 and 15.

The all-grommet, family-focused event will provide young surfers from across Victoria and beyond with the opportunity to compete against their peers, experience the excitement of a professionally run surfing event and take another step along the surfing development pathway.

The 2026 Victorian Micro Groms Cup will feature seven divisions, with Under 8 Mixed, Under 10 Boys and Girls, Under 12 Boys and Girls and Under 14 Boys and Girls set to take to the water across the two-day event.

Following the success of the event’s first two editions, the Micro Groms Cup has established itself as an important fixture for some of the youngest surfers coming through the Victorian surfing pathway.

The event is designed to cater for surfers at all stages of their competitive development – from those experiencing their first ever organised surfing competition through to established junior competitors looking to test themselves against some of the state’s best young surfers.

Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson said the event was an important part of creating opportunities for young surfers to develop their skills both in and out of the water.

“The Micro Groms Cup is all about creating a really positive first experience of competitive surfing for young surfers,” said Robertson.

“For some competitors, this will be their first Surfing Victoria event and for others it will be another step in their development as they progress through the junior pathway.

“What makes this event so special is the atmosphere around it. It is about competition, but it is also about having fun, meeting new friends, surfing with your mates and giving young surfers the opportunity to experience what a professionally run event looks and feels like.

“Torquay Point is the perfect setting for the event and we are looking forward to welcoming the next generation of Victorian surfers to the Surf Coast in November.”

The Victorian Micro Groms Cup also provides an important opportunity for younger surfers to become familiar with the fundamentals of competitive surfing, including heat formats, priority, judging and event procedures.

For the older divisions, the event also provides an opportunity to compete for valuable ranking points as part of the Surfing Australia Junior Series.

The 2025 edition of the event attracted more than 60 competitors to Torquay Point, with surfers travelling from across Victoria as well as interstate to compete across the seven divisions.

The event has also proven to be a launching pad for a number of young surfers who have gone on to compete at higher levels of the junior pathway, with previous Micro Groms Cup champions including Victorian junior standouts Rose Holland, Teddy Robertson and Stevie O’Day.

With summer just around the corner, the two-day event is expected to deliver plenty of action on the Surf Coast, with young surfers battling it out in the water while families and supporters enjoy a weekend of surfing and community.
