Victorian Longboard Titles set to commence on Phillip Island

Published on 23/02/2024

Phillip Island will play host to the opening round of the Victorian Longboard Titles this weekend bringing together over 70 of the top longboarders to the region.

With a solid swell inbound for the region on Saturday, competition is expected to commence at Cat Bay / Shelley Beach.

Surfers to watch across the weekend include world tour competitor Ben Considine (Torquay), 2023 Open Women’s state champion Molly Powell (Anglesea), Bea Conroy (Point Lonsdale) and Australian champion Greg Brown (Torquay).

Powell said she couldn’t wait for the event.

“Of course, I am looking forward to it and I’m hoping we have similar waves to last year.

“I’m really enjoying being back competing and making the most of that 20 min heat. As a mum, 20 minutes in the water is the new two-hour surf session. It comes by on the rare occasion.

“I’m looking forward to surfing with the amazing girls and pushing each other while having fun!”

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said he was eager to see the state’s best in action.

“We are stoked to be bringing together the best longboarders in the state to Phillip Island this weekend”

“The 2024 series of the Longboard Titles will again also be the pathway to the WSL Bells Beach Longboard Classic world tour event for two lucky Victorians.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the performances of all surfers from the Juniors all the way through to the Over 70s division.”

Competition is set to begin on Saturday morning with a call to be made at Cat Bay / Shelley Beach for a 7.30am start. Full schedule and live scores can be accessed via www.surfingvic.com/live

The Victorian Longboard Titles is supported by Park Lane Holiday Parks, Danny Green’s Coward Punch Campaign, VicRoads Community Safety Grants, Cancer Council Sunscreen, earLAB and Surfing Victoria.
