The 2024 Rip Curl GromSearch National Champions are set to be crowned next week at URBNSURF Melbourne.
72 of the best junior surfers from around the country have been selected for the event via events across the country as well as wildcards through the #GromSearchOnline competition held via @ripcurl Instagram Page.
“The Rip Curl Gromsearch series is an integral part of our junior pathway to the WSL Championship Tour,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“We are stoked to be once again hosting the event alongside Rip Curl and URBNSURF. Each year we see the event at URBNSURF Melbourne, the level of surfing progression blows me away and no doubt 2023 will be the same!”
Surfers qualified include current U16 National Rankings leaders Ocea Curtis (Lennox Head, NSW) and Lachlan Arghyros (Kingscliff, NSW) alongside local surfers Jerry Kelly (Barwon Heads, VIC) and Scarlett Rennie (Phillip Island, VIC).
The Rip Curl GromSearch series began as a single day event in 1999 and has developed into a world-wide series providing groms with the opportunity to surf with friends and test their skills against the best junior talent in the country. The impressive list of previous GromSearch competitors currently competing on the elite WSL world tour is a testament to the quality of the series.
This list includes esteemed surfers such as Tyler Wright, Steph Gilmore, Carissa Moore, Molly Picklum, Gabriel Medina, Filipe Toledo, Italo Ferreira, Kanoa Igarashi & Owen Wright.
The event will run at URBNSURF on Monday October 23 with heats starting at 9:00 am.
