Tradies swap tools for surfboards at the WorkSafe Tradies Challenge presented by Fagg’s Mitre 10 & Belmont Timber

Published on 11/10/2021

Tradies from across the state will be swapping their tools for surfboards this November to compete in the annual WorkSafe Tradies Challenge presented by Fagg’s Mitre 10 & Belmont Timber.

Held at Jan Juc on Saturday December 4th, the event is open to all trades such as carpenters, painters, builders, plumbers, electricians, surfboard shapers and more. The event will feature three divisions of male and female including Open, Over 35 and a pairs event.

For the second straight year, event entries will be limited to tradies from regions that are not subject to COVID19 lockdowns.

WorkSafe Executive Director of External Affairs Sam Jenkin said the event serves to remind workers why it’s so important to stay safe on the job – so they can return to their families and favourite hobbies.

“Whether it’s catching a wave on the weekend or having a family day at the beach, we want workers coming home safely so they can get back to the things they love doing – and that’s what the event highlights,” Mr Jenkin said.

Over $3000 in prizes will be given away throughout the day from event partners Fagg’s Mitre 10 & Belmont Timber, WorkSafe Victoria and 4Pines x Boardriders.

“We are stoked to welcome back the WorkSafe Tradies Challenge to Jan Juc” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“Coming off another tough year for everyone, this will be a great way to reconnect and have a fun day of waves with mates.”

Entries are now open for the event via www.surfingvic.com

The event will run under strict COVID19 restrictions including no non-essential spectators and requesting that competitors leave the competition site once they have finished their heat. Surfing Victoria will be adhere to all state directions in relation to the COVID19 pandemic and will make changes to the event to ensure compliance.
