Surfline Australia To Support Grassroots Surfing Through New Boardrider Club Grant

Published on 27/07/2022

Boardrider Clubs will have the opportunity to win much-needed funds to help them support their members thanks to a new initiative created by Surfing Australia and sponsored by surf forecasting platform, Surfline Australia.

The Surfline Next Wave Grant calls on affiliated Boardrider Clubs (BRC) across Australia to submit a video entry explaining why their Club is the most deserving, for a share of a $10,000 prize pool. Launching on the 27th of July, the promotion will help Boardrider Clubs set themselves up for summer and help support the important work they do at a grassroots level in surfing.

With over 200 Boardrider Clubs in Australia and over 20,000 members, the competition is set to be fierce. Surfing Australia Head of Partnerships, Clarissa Pike said “Boardrider Clubs are not only the breeding ground for tomorrow’s surfing superstars, they create an important community of like-minded people. Australia’s grassroots Boardriders culture is a major factor in our historical dominance of professional surfing, yet BRC’s tend to be under-resourced and mainly run by volunteers. The Surfline Next Wave Grant, is designed to recognise the importance of our BRC and to help improve their resourcing so they can continue their vital work.”

Ella Risby, Director of Marketing, Oceania has said of the program “We’re excited to be partnering with Surfing Australia on the Next Wave Boardriders Grant. The grant gives Surfline the opportunity to support the Boardriders Clubs who are at the core of their surfing communities, and we’re thrilled we can give back in a small way. We can’t wait to see the creative entries from clubs from all around Australia and to see how the winning clubs use their prize money.”
