CASUARINA/NSW (July 12th/2022): The 2022 Australian Surf Championships are back and set to be bigger and better than ever. Over 500 surfers will make their way to the NSW Mid North Coast for the 17-day event starting August 5th, 2022.

The Australian Shortboard Championships will kick off the National Titles at Port Macquarie. All athletes, including some previous Australian Champions as well as the next generation of big names are already in preparation for the event, now in it’s 58th year.

“Every great Australian surfer since 1963 has won an Australian Title, the event is the holy of holy,” said 1979 and 1981 Shortboard Champion Nick Carroll.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be an Aussie Champ no matter what sport and in surfing it still holds a special place for people, it’s a title you want to win. The idea of being an Australian Champion just makes you tingle and when you win one you know that means standing amongst the biggest names in our sport’s history,” Carroll said.

The Shortboard Championships includes divisions for Opens and Masters surfers that have either qualified or been invited to compete in the event and includes a number of 2022 State Champions.

Divisions for Men and Women include:

Opens
Over 35
Over 40
Over 50

Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater is stoked that Surfing Australia is able to hold the event again after the disruption of COVID-19.
“The Australian Championships is one of the biggest and most prestigious events on our sporting calendar,” said Mater. “The Shortboard Championships continues to support the pathway for our best surfers and we can’t wait to see the competition get underway at Port Macquarie after two years.
“We’re stoked to be working in conjunction with Surfing New South Wales to bring this event to such an epic, wave-rich location in Port Macquarie. It will be great to have a new generation of Australian Champions crowned on the NSW Mid North Coast this year,” said Mater.

NOTE: Entry to all Australian Titles is by state qualification or invitation. If you have qualified through your respective state titles, please enter via your state branch.
