Junior competitors from across Victoria are ready to compete in Round 1 of the Woolworths Victorian Junior Surfing Titles at Phillip Island this weekend.
The Woolworths Victorian Junior Surfing Titles is the exclusive qualification pathway for the State’s elite junior competitors to be selected into the Victorian Junior Surfing Team which is set to compete at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles later in the year.
The event will see the juniors compete across six divisions including Under 14 Girls and Boys, Under 16 Girls and Boys and Under 18 Girls and Boys. The three part series starts at Phillip Island before making its way to the Surf Coast and will finish on the Mornington Peninsula.
With a solid swell expected to hit Phillip Island on the 4th and 5th of February the competition location is set for the Penguin Parade which has the ability to handle large swells and strong winds.
Eva Bassed (Sandy Point) will be looking to take the win this weekend as she comes into the event with heaps of momentum after taking out Round 2 of the Victorian Open State Titles last Weekend.
Another stand out competitor to watch out for will be last year’s Under 14 Woolworths Victorian Junior Surfing Titles champion Jarvis Barrow (Jan Juc) who will be looking to back up his win when going into the next age bracket.
“The Juniors seem to improve on their performances each year, so it will be exciting to see the level of surfing this weekend!” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
The first call for the event will be at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start at Penguin Parade on Saturday the 4th of February. Sundays location will be confirmed to competitors on Saturday.
