This weekend, the Surfcoast will see the return of the prestigious Rip Curl Gromsearch Qualifier at Jan Juc beach, Victoria. The best groms from around the state and nation will be going head to head to earn themselves a spot in the national final at URBNSURF in 2023.
If past champions of the GromSearch, such as the 2022 Rip Curl WSL Finals World Champions Filipe Toledo and Stephanie Gilmore, are anything to go by then this weekend will be fueled with entertaining performances by the highly skilled groms.
The GromSearch Series runs in more than 10 countries, with over 3,000 competitors worldwide.
Over 80 groms from all over Victoria, and Australia, will descend onto Jan Juc beach with last year’s Rip Curl Gromsearch National 3rd place finalist Caden Francis (Gold Coast) and Sara Hickson (Rye) keen to snatch the victory. Others to watch include Jan Juc local Leroy Filer (Jan Juc) and Rip Curl team rider Ava Holland (Dromana).
“We are really stoked to see the talented pool of groms put on a show for us this weekend,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“I’m really excited to watch the progression of the competitors from the last Gromsearch qualifying competition 2 years ago.”
The worldwide series of events is designed for grommets and features Under 12 Boys, Under 12 Girls, Under 14 Boys, Under 14 Girls, Under 16 Boys and Under 16 Girls divisions.
