Ben Considine (Barwon Heads) and Bea Conroy (Pt Lonsdale) have earned a spot in the Bioglan Bells Beach Longboard Classic World Tour event after claiming the 2024 Victorian Longboard Titles over the weekend at 13th Beach.
With easterly winds hampering conditions all weekend, the final round of the series was shifted to 13th Beach allowing for fun peaky surf to decide the state champions across 11 divisions.
Considine was unstoppable at his home break in the final, locking in two excellent scores, a 9.37 and a 9.13 for a 18.50 heat total, putting all of his opponents in a combination situation and taking the Round 2 win and State Title.
“I’m beyond stoked with the result,” said Considine. “Since last year I’ve put some new things in place training wise, have been working really hard on my surfing and mental approach and I feel it’s really paying off. This event was the best and most consistent I’ve felt approaching each heat so I feel great that I’ve been able to land this result and consolidate the place on the first world tour stop here at bells.”
“I’m super excited to compete on the world stage again this year, I feel my competitive game has grown leaps and bounds since this time last year so can’t wait to get into it and hopefully display a great result on my home turf – I’m ready to go!!!”
Finishing in second place was Tas Dunton (Mornington Peninsula) on a heat total of 14.23 with brother Sam Dunton (Mornington Peninsula) finishing in third on 11.26 points. Thomas Fahey (Mornington Peninsula) finishing in fourth place on 10.67 points.
On the Women’s side of the draw, Bea Conroy (Pt Lonsdale) continued her hot form from Round One, with a Second Round win in the fun conditions. Conroy finished on a heat total of 16.17 to finish ahead of Asha Reaves (Melbourne) who finished on 12.90 points.
“I am pretty happy to say I’ve come back and got the title this year” said Conroy. “Surfing at my favourite spot with the worlds best is going to be something pretty special. It’s an amazing opportunity that I will make the most of!”
Finishing in third was 2023 State Champion Molly Powell (Angelsea) on 10.17 points with Rori Reyntjes (Torquay) in fourth on 8.97 points.
Both Conroy and Considine will compete at the Bioglan Bells Beach Longboard Classic on July 18-21, 2024.
