BELLS BEACH, Torquay, Victoria, Australia (Tuesday, September 16, 2025) – The world’s best longboarders have arrived on Victoria’s Surf Coast in Australia ahead of the Bioglan Bells Beach Longboard Classic, Stop No. 2 of the World Surf League (WSL) 2025 Longboard Tour (LT). Fields of 24 men and 24 women will hit the water at one of surfing’s most historically decorated locations, Bells Beach, as they battle for the opportunity to become the World Longboard Champions by season’s end. Competition is likely to start tomorrow, holding a window from September 17 through 21, 2025.
Errico and Jensen Eye More Success at Bells Beach
Three-time WSL World Longboard Champion Soleil Errico (USA) is eying off her third-consecutive win at Bells Beach, having claimed victory at this event in 2023 and 2024. The stylish young natural footer grew up perfecting her act on the long walls of Malibu Point in California and feels right at home here at Bells, particularly when competition moves to the high-tide wave of Rincon. After a runner-up finish at the first event of the season, Errico sits comfortably in second on the rankings ahead of this week’s competition at Bells.
“I love it here in Australia and especially Bells,” Errico said. “This is my favorite place to travel to in the world. The coastline is so beautiful, and I have a lot of friends down here, so it always feels like home to me. It would mean so much to me to get a three-peat at this location. Bells is such an amazing wave with so much history, so to add my name to a list of the sport’s best surfers who have had a lot of success at this wave would be really special to me and feel like a real achievement. An event win would also put me in a really good spot heading into the last event of the year in El Salvador. I’ll just do my best and enjoy myself, and whatever happens happens.”
With a career spanning over two decades, Taylor Jensen (USA) claimed that his win at Bells Beach last year was one of the most special of his life. The four-time World Longboard Champion joined his father-in-law (Nat Young) as a Bells Winner and would love nothing more than to join him again as a multiple winner. With a promising forecast lining up for this week, Jensen is excited to test himself in solid conditions on the Bells Bowl over the weekend.
“I love this wave and this set-up, the power, the landscape, it all just holds a special place in my heart,” Jensen said. “It’s an iconic venue, and it looks like we’ve got a great forecast. It’s looking like we will get a start tomorrow on the Bowl with some decent-sized waves, then it drops for a couple of days, and then the weekend is looking solid and pretty enticing. I’m feeling pretty relaxed this year once again. I had a couple of years that were pretty transitional for me, changing up equipment and my surfing and then last year I was able to enjoy it all, and it paid off. I hope that continues through this year as I’m feeling really good and would love to go back-to-back once again. That is my goal this year for sure.”
Calmon and Ellice-Flint Look to Solidify Rankings Spots Ahead of the Second Half of the Season
After an amazing performance in the early rounds of the Bells event last year, Aussie hopeful Kai Ellice-Flint (AUS) was knocked out before the Finals in an event he looked destined to go all the way in. Fast forward 12 months, and the super smooth, natural footer comes into Stop No. 2 of the Longboard Tour as World No. 1 after winning the Lexus US Open at Huntington Beach in August. Ellice-Flint is looking to go deeper into the draw this time around and hopes he can use the confidence gained from his biggest career win.
“This place holds so much rich history, and a lot of the guys that won here way back in the day are my biggest inspirations,” Ellice Flint said. “Guys like Michael Peterson, Nat Young, and Wayne Lynch back in the sixties and seventies. Coming back here every year is a real treat, and it’s just a magical, beautiful place. You get to surf in so many different conditions while you’re here, so it’s really fun. I’m not feeling much pressure at all at the moment. I’m just feeling calm and confident after my win and am just looking to have a good surf in my heat. Getting into a flow state while competing is super important and key to going deep.”
Perennial title threat Chloe Calmon (BRA) is returning to full-time competition this year after taking 2024 off to focus on her personal and mental health. Having finished runner-up to the Longboard Title multiple times in her young career, Calmon has looked to reset and come into 2025 with a more laid-back attitude to competition. She hopes that helps her take the next step towards claiming her maiden World Longboard Title. First, though, Calmon will look to back up her third-place finish in California last month with another big result at Bells Beach.
“I just love Australia so much, it’s so good to be back,” Calmon said. “Bells holds so much history, and it’s amazing just to be here and walk down the stairs. It’s such an amazing venue to hold a longboard event, and I feel honoured to be here. In 2024, I took a year off from competitive surfing to focus on my mental health and to reconnect with my love of surfing. It felt great to surf for fun without any pressure or expectation and remind myself why I love it. Now that I’m back competing, I have such a renewed perspective on it and am enjoying it a lot more and feeling a lot more grateful for this life I get to live. I’ve been here before, but to be back with a new mindset makes it feel like a whole new experience in a whole new place, which is exciting.”
