Bells Beach / Djarrak to host opening round of Victorian Open Series

Published on 06/10/2023

The Victorian Open Series is set to launch this weekend on the sacred grounds of Bells Beach / Djarrak as the race for spots in the Rip Curl Pro Trials begins.

The three part series will begin at Bells Beach before heading to Phillip Island in February 2024, and finalising on the Mornington Peninsula in March 2024.

Surfers to watch on the Women’s side of the draw include local talent Emily McGettigan (Torquay), Ava Holland (Mornington Peninsula) and Sarah Sueren (Inverloch).

Meanwhile on the Men’s side of the draw Qualifying Series surfer Xavier Huxtable (Jan Juc) will be one to watch along with Harry de Roth (Phillip Island), and Pedro Lani (Mornington Peninsula).

“The Victorian Open Series is an amazing opportunity for our surfers to get a chance at going up against the worlds best at the Rip Curl Pro, but also for our up and coming surfers it is a great chance to learn from the states best surfers” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“Good luck to all surfers competing this weekend and across the whole series.”

This weekend’s swell forecast is expecting a strong south-west groundswell to impact the coastline with onshore breezes throughout the day.
