Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles Athlete Fundraiser

Published on 30/06/2021

The Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles held annually at Bells Beach has been a hallmark event on the Indigenous surfing calendar since its re-birth in 2012. The event is a modern day gathering for First Nations people from across the country. The 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic, along with all other Indigenous surf contests across Australia, as such, no Australian Indigenous Titles were contested in 2020.

Unfortunately there was another Victorian Covid-19 outbreak just prior to the 2021 Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles which triggered a lockdown May 27th, one day prior to the events commencement. A decision was made at the time to postpone the event, with new dates being Friday 10th to Sunday 12th September 2021.

75% of competitors had already made the trip to Victoria when the lockdown announcement was made. To help alleviate some of the financial burden of two trips to Victoria, Surfing Victoria are aiming to raise $25,000 to be split equally across the field, in order to subsidise travel expenses.

Through the Australian Sports Foundation, any donation over $2 is tax deductible and would be greatly appreciated, so please donate today!
