Hurley Bells Beach Junior to Bring Australia’s Best Young Surfers to Djarrak

Torquay, VIC / AUS (Tuesday 22nd September, 2026): Australia’s next generation of surfing talent will have the opportunity to compete at one of the world’s most iconic waves when the Hurley Bells Beach Junior returns to Bells Beach / Djarrak on September 23 and 24, 2026.

The two-day event will see some of Australia’s leading Under 16 and Under 18 surfers take on the famous Bells lineup, with valuable points towards the Surfing Australia Junior Series on offer.

The Hurley Bells Beach Junior is rated as a 5,500-point national junior event, making it a significant fixture on the Australian junior surfing calendar and an important opportunity for young athletes looking to progress through the national pathway.

It also marks the return of nationally rated junior competition to Bells Beach / Djarrak for the first time since 2019, once again positioning the iconic Victorian venue as a proving ground for Australia’s emerging surfing stars.

Victorian Surfers to Watch

A strong contingent of Victorian surfers will line up across the four divisions, with a number of the state’s leading junior athletes set to test themselves against the country’s best.

U18 Boys

Charlie Chisholm, Jack Lindsay, Jarvis Barrow, Sunny Wouters, Raph Jones, Noah Hanson, Remy Filer, Dom Kellett, Tarvi Woods and Mac Agosta.

U18 Girls

Savannah Bennett, Lillian Bassed and Chloe Muscroft.

U16 Boys

Bells Beach / Djarrak has played a significant role in the history of Australian surfing, with generations of Victorian and Australian surfers developing their competitive skills on the iconic waves before progressing to the international stage.

For the young athletes competing in the Hurley Bells Beach Junior, the opportunity to experience nationally rated competition at Bells represents another important step in that pathway.

Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson said the return of nationally rated junior competition to Bells Beach provides an exciting opportunity for the next generation of surfers.

“Bells Beach is one of the most iconic venues in Australian surfing and it’s fantastic to be able to bring nationally rated junior competition back to Djarrak,” said Robertson.

“For these young surfers, getting the opportunity to compete at Bells, in front of their families, friends and the Victorian surfing community, is something they’ll remember for a long time.”

“We’ve got a really strong group of Victorian juniors coming through the pathway at the moment and this event gives them the chance to test themselves against some of the best young surfers from around the country, while chasing valuable Junior Series points.”

With 5,500 Surfing Australia Junior Series points on offer, the Hurley Bells Beach Junior is expected to attract a strong field from across Australia, with competitors looking to build their national rankings and gain valuable experience at one of the country’s most celebrated surf breaks.

The 2026 Hurley Bells Beach Junior is supported by Hurley, Carve, Sea All Dolphin Swims, Vitality Brands, Cancer Council Sunscreen, Surf Better Now and Surfing Victoria.
