Flinders, VIC/AUS (Sunday 15th March, 2026): Tarvi Woods (Fingal, U18 Boys) and Heidi Abetz (Jan Juc, U18 Girls) have claimed event wins at the No TXT No Wrecks Victorian Junior Surfing Titles at the Gunnery in Flinders today.
Over 60 competitors battled the tricky conditions across the weekend with a large swell forcing the event to move away from the primary location of Gunnamatta to the more protected Gunnery at Flinders.
In a show of local knowledge, Tarvi Woods cruised to victory in the Under 18 boys final ahead of 2025 State Champion Jarvis Barrow (Jan Juc).
Locking in the two highest scoring rides of the final (a 6.50 and 6.73), Woods took control of the heat from the outset and cruised to victory on his home turf.
“It was an unreal weekend and pretty special to get the win at home with friends and family on the beach,” said Woods. “The waves were actually pretty tough and a little hard to surf but it’s the same break I grew up surfing as a little kid and the wave I really learned on. I kind of know where all the rocks are. Plenty of weird bumps and sections, but also a few really fun ones if you were in the right spot.”
“Winning anywhere is cool, but doing it at home with everyone there yelling from the beach makes it way more special. I am super stoked and can’t wait to go to Phillip island for round 3”
Barrow came in second with a heat total of 10.66, but couldnt find the waves required to move into top position.
Finishing in third and fourth respectively were Sunny Wouters (Rye) on 9.50 points and Remy Filer (Jan Juc) on 8.00 points.
In the Under 18 Girls, Heidi Abetz continued her hot streak after breaking through for her first ever state win at the opening round. In a tight final, Abetz just came ahead on top by .1 of a point to beat Chloe Muscroft (Jan Juc).
“The conditions were super tricky, and it was the first time I had ever surfed here which made it hard,” said Abetz. “But all the girls did really well. I’m just super happy to win!”
Abetz finished on 9.77 points ahead of Muscroft who finished on 9.67 points. Lilian Bassed (Sandy Point, 9.27 points) and Savannah Bennett (Cape Woolamai, 4.73 points) finished in third and fourth position respectively.
Other event champions included Harlem Pec (Jan Juc, U16 Boys), Rose Holland (Dromana, U16 Girls), Raff Morris (Sorrento, U14 Boys) and Stevie O’Day (Jan Juc, U14 Girls).
