Mornington Peninsula, VIC/AUS (Friday 13th March): The search for the next generation of Victorian junior surfing stars continues across the 14th and 15th March, with the No TXT No Wrecks Victorian Junior Surfing Titles on the Mornington Peninsula, Bunurong Country.
The second stop of the three-event series will be held on the Mornington Peninsula, with more than 60 competitors confirmed to take part.
“The No TXT No Wrecks Junior Surfing Titles continue to play an important role in the development of Victoria’s next generation of surfers,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“Bringing the series to the Mornington Peninsula provides a fantastic opportunity for our junior athletes to test their skills in a new environment while earning valuable points on the Surfing Australia Junior Series.”
“This series has long been a proven pathway for Victorian surfers, with many of our athletes who are now competing on the Qualifying Series and Championship Tour having come through these events and gained the competitive experience needed to progress to the next level.”
Surfers to watch throughout the event include top seeds in the Under 18 divisions, Heidi Abetz (Jan Juc) and Sunny Wouters (Mornington Peninsula), along with Under 16 competitors Liam Thompson (Torquay) and Scarlett Rennie (Phillip Island).
The weekend forecast from official forecaster Surfline predicts this weekend is shaping up well for competition at Flinders, with a solid southwest swell delivering head-high to overhead waves on Saturday morning and light northerly winds expected to keep conditions clean early. Sunday looks slightly smaller early but still contestable, with increasing new swell throughout the day.
Competition is expected to begin at 7:30am on both days, with competitors urged to join the official competitor WhatsApp group for updates on start times and locations.
