2023 ISA World Longboard Championship – Team Announced

Surfing Australia is excited to announce the four athletes heading to El Salvador to represent Australia at the 2023 ISA World Longboard Championship from May 7-13.

Surfing Australia National High Performance Director, Kate Wilcomes said: “Australia has a rich history of incredible longboarders and we’re thrilled to see this event return after it was last held in Biarritz, France in 2019 with a record 103 surfers from 32 nations. Congratulations to the athletes who have been selected as part of the Irukandjis team and we wish you the best of luck.”

The Irukandjis team is made up of brothers Tasman & Sam Dunton (McCrae, VIC), Kirra Molnar (Noosa Heads, QLD) and Lucy Small (Newtown, NSW) all of whom said they’re honoured to represent their country.

Tas and Sam grew up surfing the waves of Point Leo, Shoreham and Gunnamatta on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria with their mum Jann.

Tasman Dunton said: “Growing up watching mum surf in the Australian titles and winning the 1999 Australian title at Bells Beach really is where it started for us. It has always been a dream to compete on the world stage and being selected for the ISA games with my brother is such an honour and I’m very excited to get it done for Australia.”

Sam Dunton said. “I am very grateful to be given this opportunity as there are so many great longboarders in Australia. I travelled through El Salavador back in 2014 with my partner Zoe and have some great memories of the warm water, good waves and fun environment.”

For Lucy and Kirra, it’s their first visit to El Salvador and first time competing in the ISA Worlds.

Lucy Small said: “I am so excited to have the opportunity to explore the beautiful coastline and meet with the many surfers from around the world who will be there.”

Kirra Molnar said: “I am very much looking forward to surfing a new, exciting place and experiencing the waves El Salvador has to offer. I hope to do well representing Australia at ISA Worlds and continue to travel and compete around the world at invitational events and on the WSL.”

The championship will be held at the world famous El Sunzal point a consistent wave that is ideal for longboarding.
