Round 1 of the 2023 Victorian Longboard Titles will commence this weekend at Phillip Island with the series being the exclusive qualification pathway for the State’s elite longboard competitors to be selected into the Victorian Longboard Team, set to compete at the Australian Longboard Titles later in the year.
Moreover, in 2023 the competitors have the extra incentive to go big for the win with the Victorian Men’s and Women’s champions in the Longboard division being awarded a wildcard into the upcoming WSL Bells Beach Longboard Classic World Tour Event in September 2023.
Thirteen divisions will be hitting the shores of Phillip Island with 2022 Victorian Open Women’s Longboard champion Bea Conroy (Point Lonsdale), 2022 Victorian Open Men’s Logger champion Bailey German (Tootgarook) and Phillip Island local Ben Taylor (Cape Woolamai) all looking to come out on top.
The event’s primary location will be at Cape Woolamai, however with this weekends forecast calling for a strong groundswell and easterly winds, the initial call for Saturdays competition will be at Cat Bay.
With multiple divisions and a range of styles across the field of competitors, there will be plenty of action across the 2 days of competition.
“The 2023 series of the Longboard Titles has been taken to the next level with the WSL Bells Beach Longboard Classic World Tour Event wildcard on the line,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“It will be interesting to see the competitor’s performances rise with this incentive on the table.”
The first call for the event will be 7.15 am for a 7.30 am start at Cat Bay on Saturday.
