Victorian State Surfing Team to head north for Australian Surf Championships

Published on 29/07/2022

Surfing Victoria are proud to announce the Victorian State Surfing Team Members for 2022 that will head to Port Macquarie next month for the Australian Surf Championships.

The prestigious event has not been run since 2019 due to the COVID19 pandemic and will bring together over 500 surfers to the NSW Mid North Coast for the 17-day event starting August 5th, 2022.

Victorian State Longboard Champion Bea Conroy (Point Lonsdale) has been a fixture of the Victorian State Team for many years competing in both Longboard, Logger and Shortboard divisions from Juniors to now Opens.

“I’m super keen for Aussies!” said Conroy.

“It’ll be good to show everyone how well we can surf down in Victoria, despite the cold.

“I’m also keen to catch up and surf with the girls and guys from around Australia and just have some fun in the water. Hopefully we score some good waves!”

Phillip Island’s Harry de Roth will be flying the flag for not only Phillip Island but also Victoria in the Open Men Shortboard divisions in Port Macquarie.

“I’m frothing to get up there and represent Victoria” said de Roth.

“I’m going to try and make it into a road trip and enjoy the coast along the way. I’ve never surfed in Port Macquarie and from the clips I’ve seen of Matt Banting over the years it looks very very fun!”

Victoria will have surfers in 35 divisions across the 17 days in disciplines such as Shortboard, Longboard, Logger and Bodyboard.

“Surfing Victoria are stoked to see the Australian Surf Championships back in 2022” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“It is a huge honour to be selected to represent the state, and we look forward to seeing Victorians take it to the rest of the country!”

“Good luck to everyone heading up to Port Macquarie for the event to represent Victoria.”
