With summer just around the corner, Surfing Australia is gearing up to launch the 12th season of SurfGroms with support from naming partner, Woolworths. This September the season kicks off with new “Come Try Days” in selected regions, where kids can head to participating Surf Schools for an opportunity to try the Woolworths SurfGroms program for free before signing up to the full program.

Surfing Australia’s Head of Partnerships, Clarissa Pike, said “Surfing is a family sport and the SurfGroms program is its core, teaching kids not only how to navigate the ocean safely, but teaching them a skill for life. Woolworths is the perfect partner for our SurfGroms Program as they provide tangible support for Aussie junior surfing, with a focus on fresh food fuelling a healthy & active lifestyle for kids. Their support means we can grow the sport at the grassroots level and create the next generation of surfers.”

Since the program was launched in October 2011, more than 100,000 Australian children have experienced the thrill of surfing for the first time. The program is specially designed for 5 – 12 year olds of all abilities, using group-based games to not only equip kids with the skills they need to surf and paddle but also to encourage them to have fun.
This season the programs will also have a focus on nutrition and the benefits of eating healthy to perform at their best, bought to the groms by Woolworths and their Pick Fresh Play Fresh campaign.

Woolworths SurfGroms offers five separate skill levels nationally. The two distinct age categories are MiniGroms (5-8 years old) and SuperGroms (9-12 years old).
