Team Victoria come away with 4 Australian Longboard Titles on the Tweed Coast

CABARITA, NSW (July 27, 2025): The 2025 Thermos Australian Longboard Titles have concluded on the Tweed Coast, with champions crowned across all divisions and selections made for ‘The Irukandjis’ Australia’s National Surfing Team.

Running from Wednesday, July 22 to Sunday, July 27, showcasing surfers from the Under 18s all the way through to the Over 70s. The week kicked off with three inspiring days of surfing from our Masters Divisions (Over 40 – Over 70), setting a high bar for the competition. Then, the Juniors and Opens hit the water, bringing fresh energy and fierce performances.

On Sunday, Cabarita delivered longboarding perfection—warm water, sunny skies, and clean waves set the stage for a spectacular finals day. The first final of the day was the Under 18 Junior Men, where Jimmy James Tualima (Manly East, NSW) emerged victorious over Jive Constable (Noosa, QLD) by 3.76 pts. Posting a 6.83 and 6.20 for a 13.03 pts heat total.

Next up was the Under 18 Junior Women’s final, where Luana Matthies (Miami, QLD) claimed victory over Poppy Wright (Noosa, QLD), finishing 3.63 points ahead.

With qualification for ‘The Irukandjis’ Australia’s National Surfing Team on the line, and a chance to represent the country at the 2026 ISA World Longboard Championships in El Salvador, the Open Divisions were the main event of this year’s competition.

The Open Men’s final was nothing short of fireworks, delivering the closest heat of the entire event. Josh Constable (Noosa, QLD) posted a 6.90 and 6.50 for a 13.40 heat total, narrowly edging out Archy Bemrose (Kingscliff, NSW) by just 0.04 points!

“I’m 44 years old, and I won my first Australian Open Title back in 2003. I’m so stoked to still be competing now in 2025. I’d like to thank my family for their endless support—it’s been really special to share this journey over the weekend and compete alongside my son, Jive.

I’m really looking forward to joining ‘The Irukandjis’ and representing Australia. I’ve had a couple of runner-up finishes at the ISA World Longboard Championships, so I’m ready to chase that gold medal.”

In another nail-biter, Emma Perrier (Tweed Heads, NSW) put herself into the excellent range with an 8-point ride, paired with a 5.83 to secure a 13.83 heat total—and the win over Melanie Staunton by just 0.30 points.

“This is the first time I’ve qualified to make the Australia team, I’m so stoked with this championship and I’m extremely excited to compete at ISA World Longboard Championships. It will be an honour to represent Australia on the global stage, I really hope we can come away with a good result.”

Earlier in the week, Men’s Over 70s Champion, John Haddow (Cowaramup, WA), dedicated his victory to his granddaughter, who tragically recently passed away Nina. On Friday, he said he could feel her presence with him in the water, as two of the best waves of the final came his way.

“I got a great wave within the first five minutes of my heat and scored an 8-point ride. I paddled back out, and almost immediately another near-perfect wave landed right in my lap. I rode it all the way down the beach, making it through multiple sections.

It must’ve been the angle on my shoulder looking out for me. I’d like to dedicate this win to my granddaughter, Nina. To travel across the country from Western Australia, put it all on the line, and walk away with an Australian Championship after everything that’s happened recently, it’s just so special.”

Arguably the most decorated surfer in the field, Jason Livingston (North Curl Curl, NSW) entered this year’s event with 15 Australian Championships to his name. On Friday, he continued to break records, taking out both the Men’s Over 55 and Men’s Over 50 divisions—bringing his total to 17 Australian titles and further cementing his place as one of Australia’s greatest.

Jacquie Chambers (Phillip Island, VIC) put on a dominant display in the Women’s Over 50 final, claiming her first-ever Australian Championship. She posted scores of 6.17 and 6.67 to secure the win by a 4.77-point margin.

“I’ve been in rehab for a couple of years after a neck injury, so I’ve been hitting the gym and working on my surfing with the goal of returning to compete at the Thermos Australian Longboard Titles. I was just aiming to give it my best, but to walk away with my very first Aussie title means the absolute world to me.”

Surfing Australia Event Organiser, Rohan Fell, has hailed the event a huge success.

“We’ve had a huge five days of competition, starting at Kingscliff and finishing at Cabarita Point with beautiful conditions for finals day. It’s been fierce all week, with some big shake-ups in the Open Men’s and Women’s divisions.

We’re stoked to bring everyone back to the Tweed Coast. The level of surfing across all divisions has been elite, we really couldn’t be happier with the standard of competition on display this week.”

Longboarding once again proved that it’s not only rich in tradition, but also thriving as a high-performance discipline—growing in popularity and pushing new boundaries, with this event setting the benchmark for longboard surfing in Australia.
