Sunny Wouters and Heidi Abetz breakthrough for first win at No TXT No Wrecks Junior Surfing Titles

Published on 02/02/2026

Sunny Wouters (Rye, U18 Boys) and Heidi Abetz (Jan Juc, U18 Girls) have broken through for their first wins at state level at the No TXT No Wrecks Victorian Junior Surfing Titles at Bells Beach / Djarrak.

Over 60 competitors battled the challenging conditions across the weekend with a small swell and increasing onshore winds all weekend at the famous break.

In a tight battle in the Under 18 boys final, it was 2025 champion Jarvis Barrow (Jan Juc) who was in-form throughout the event winning all of his heats on the way to the final.

However, it was Sunny Wouters who found the best waves throughout the final finishing with a heat total of 13.00 points.

“I’m pretty stoked to win my first state round, it’s so great,” said Sunny Wouters.

“Everyone else was surfing so well, and it was a pretty close heat in the end. So im just stoked to get the win.”

Barrow came in second with a heat total of 10.93, after a last ditch effort to take the lead came up short.

Finishing in third and fourth respectively were Jack Lindsay (Jan Juc) on 9.83 points and Remy Filer (Jan Juc) on 9.00 points.

In the Under 18 Girls, Heidi Abetz showed her local knowledge surfing just three waves in the final for a heat total of 10.67 and her first ever state event win.

“Its pretty special,” said Heidi Abetz. “It was nice to surf with the girls and have lots of fun in the water.”

“It wasn’t too serious in the water, and it was pretty tricky to find waves but im happy I won.”

Finishing in second was top seed Lillian Bassed (Sandy Point) on 9.30 points. Chloe Muscroft (Jan Juc, 6.17 points) and Cedar Davie (Jan Juc, 1.93 points) finished in third and fourth position.

Other event champions included Liam Thomson (Torquay, U16 Boys), Scarlett Rennie (Cape Woolamai, U16 Girls), Teddy Robertson (Torquay, U14 Boys) and Estella Carbonelli (Jan Juc, U14 Girls).
