The 2025 Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island presented by Bass Coast Shire Council will bring elite surfers to the Bass Coast Shire this October as the final marquee junior event on the Surfing Australia Junior Series.
As a 10,000 point Marquee event on the Surfing Australia National Rankings, the event is only one of five events of this caliber in the country and will provide surfers with valuable rankings points in their quest for a spot in the Irukandjis team heading to the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.
Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead is thrilled to welcome back the top juniors to the Bass Coast Shire.
“We’re incredibly proud to welcome the Rip Curl GromSearch back to Phillip Island – a marquee event that not only showcases our spectacular coastline and surf culture, but also plays a vital role in developing the next generation of Australian surfing talent. Events like this draw families from across the country, many staying on to explore everything Bass Coast has to offer, from our beaches and wildlife to our cafes, shops and attractions. That has a big flow-on effect for our local economy and helps create lifelong memories for young athletes and their supporters. We’re thrilled to once again host the rising stars of surfing in what’s sure to be another action-packed and inspiring week.”
With over 180 competitors expected to compete over the 5 day event, the event is one of the biggest in the country seeing surfers from all 6 surfing states.
“We’re stoked to partner with Surfing Victoria to bring Australia’s best groms back to Phillip Island,” said Angus Forrest, Rip Curl’s Sports Marketing Manager. “The future of Australian surfing has never looked brighter, with the next generation constantly pushing boundaries and elevating the sport. Phillip Island is always a standout stop on the GromSearch series, showcasing top talent ahead of the National Final at URBNSURF Sydney later this year.”
Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said it’s fantastic to see the Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island receiving this strong support.
“The inaugural Phillip Island Junior Pro was a massive hit and we hope it will be even bigger this year with the continued support of the Victorian Government, Bass Coast Shire Council and Rip Curl.”
“We can’t wait to welcome the GromSearch back to Bass Coast this October providing a boost for local jobs and businesses.”
Annual Junior Series Champions in the Under 16 & 18 Male & Female Divisions of the Surfing Australia Junior Series will earn a spot on the Irukandjis Team and represent Australia at the ISA World Junior Championships.
“We are proud to partner with Rip Curl, The Bass Coast Shire and Victoria Government to bring back the Rip Curl GromSearch to Phillip Island” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“Ensuring Victoria hosts a marquee junior event each year is key to our development pathway and ensures our surfers get the best opportunity to gain points and develop their skills against the best from other states.”
Finals from the event will be webcasted, with further details to come.
