Phillip Island Boardriders Club Surf & Yoga Program for Girls 22/23

Published on 09/11/2022

After much anticipation, the Phillip Island Boardriders Club hosted the launch of their new Surf and Yoga program for the female members of the club. The vibe was sociable and salty (in a good way) with conversations revolving around swell, tides and wind direction for the six-week surf coaching program beginning the following day. After such a long, cold winter it was truly uplifting having thirty local female surfers gathered in one place.

This initiative envisioned by the club’s President Hannah Eisen and supported by Change Our Game and Bass Coast Shire Council has proved immensely popular with the thirty available places quickly snapped up. The aim of the surf and yoga program is to build connections and community, increase strength and flexibility, as well as surfing skills and most importantly have fun. Participants range in age from 11 to 61, with surfing abilities equally as diverse.

We are delighted to have local surf school, Girls On Board coaching our ten beginners, while the twenty intermediate and advanced surfers will benefit from coaching, wisdom and video analysis provided by Glyndyn Ringrose. A twelve-week yoga program by Dominique Salerno at the clubhouse will focus on the importance of flexibility and breathwork for female surfers. Dominique is also giving yoga classes Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings for all members of the public at the clubhouse.

The atmosphere of the Monday surf coaching sessions was not dampened by the challenging low tide conditions. Everyone paddled out enthusiastically and had fun, lots of waves and laughs as we surfed together and encouraged each other.
