Surfing Victoria is proud to continue the highly successful #NoTXTnoWrecks campaign in Victoria thanks to the VicRoads Community Road Safety Grants Program funding.
The campaign, initially created in 2015 by Surfing Western Australia, has been a strong catalyst for change in the surfing community in Western Australia and saw similar results in Victoria last year.
“We received so much positive feedback last year as a result of the campaign” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson. “Surfers do a lot of driving searching for waves, and we know drivers are 10 times more at risk of crashing if they are texting, browsing or emailing on their mobile phone, so this campaign is incredibly important.”
Living on Phillip Island Sage Goldsbury understands that surfers are constantly searching for waves and travelling to competitions.
“Ive spent countless hours on the road travelling to competitions and searching for waves around home, usually on narrow and unsealed roads” said Goldsbury. “Using your phone whilst driving can lead to a serious crash. When driving to the beach, put your phone away.”
The campaign will be rolled out across Surfing Victoria social channels as well as at events across the state.
