An incredible 217 women and girls came together to celebrate Women’s surfing over the weekend in Lorne on Gadubanud Country for the inaugural Great Ocean Road Womens Surf Fest presented by Ghanda©
The Great Ocean Road Womens Surf Festival presented by Ghanda© is an all inclusive surfing festival celebrating everything about Women’s surfing. The festival provided opportunities for surfers from all backgrounds and experience to come together and celebrate their love for surfing and the ocean.
One of the highlights of the weekend included a conversation between Waterpeople Podcast Host Lauren Hill and 10 x Bells Beach Champion Gail Couper at the Lorne Theatre with over 100 people attending the intimate evening.
Gail spoke for an hour on the early days of surfing in Victoria and her life growing up in a small coastal town whilst also winning events across Australia.
“Its been amazing seeing so many women and girls supporting each other. It will be one of the first of many I hope,” said Mia Holland, who was part of the winning Junior Girls team on the Sunday.
“It was really interesting to hear Gail talk and learn about her life. She’s such a legend of surfing and it was amazing to listen to her talk.”
