Competitors arrive in Victoria for the Rip Curl Gromsearch Phillip Island Presented by Bass Coast Shire

Published on 29/09/2025

Over 180 of the top junior surfers from across the country have landed in Victoria for the Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island presented by Bass Coast Shire Council that kicks off tomorrow.

As a 10,000 point Marquee event on the Surfing Australia National Rankings, the event is only one of five events of this caliber in the country and will provide surfers with valuable rankings points in their quest for a spot in the Irukandjis team heading to the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.

Victorian hopeful Estella Carbonelli (Jan Juc, VIC), is currently ranked 2nd in the Under 14 Girls and will be looking for a big win in her home state to jump into first place.

“I’m looking forward to seeing friends, having fun and surfing some fun waves during the event,” said Carbonelli. “It’s good to have an event close to home because we don’t have to travel far and we can showcase some of Victorian’s best beaches.”

“I love the variety of waves on offer in Phillip Island, hopefully there’s some fun rip bowls  at Woolamai during the event.”

Featuring Boys and Girls divisions for Under 18, Under 16 and Under 14 divisions, the event will run over the Victorian school holidays from September 30 – October 4, 2025.

“It’s exciting to be welcoming the best 200 junior surfers from around the country to Victoria for the week,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“This is a pivotal event in the national junior surfing pathway and holds some valuable points going into the Australian Junior Surfing Titles.”

“Phillip Island has some incredible surfing locations and is a fantastic place for junior surfers to test their skills in powerful waves.”

The event will be webcasted for the final day of the event via Surfing Victoria’s YouTube. Full details including live scores and schedule can be found at www.surfingvic.com/ripcurlgromsearchphillipisland
