Monday 19th February, 2024 (Cape Woolamai, Victoria): Ava Holland (Mornington Peninsula) and Steve Noble (Cape Patterson) have taken top honours at Phillip Island over the weekend at Round 2 of the Victorian Open Series.
Vying for the title of State Champion and a coveted spot in the Rip Curl Pro Trials, surfers were greeted with fun albeit challenging waves all day at the primary location of Cape Woolamai.
Holland finished the final with a heat total of 11.83 (out of a possible 20), to best Round 1 winner Emily McGettigan (Torquay) who finished on 7.23 points.
“The waves were super fun out there today when you got them,” said Holland.
“It was sometimes tricky to find the right waves out there, but im stoked to get the win and am looking forward to the next event at my home break!”
Finishing in third and fourth were Sara Hickson (Mornington Peninsula) and Sophie Wilkinson (Mornington Peninsula).
Steve Noble showed his intimate knowledge of Cape Woolamai in the final finishing with a heat total of 14.20 points ahead of in-form surfer Lucas Hickson (Mornington Peninsula). Hickson held the two highest heat total of the day, however could not score enough in the final to best Noble.
“It was certainly challenging out there today,” said Noble.
“Finishing on the low tide made it tough but it was good to get a couple of turns out there and get the win.”
Finishing in third and fourth was Jack Basset (Barwon Heads) and Isiah Norling (Barwon Heads).
