2021 Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles presented by Rip Curl and Headsox cancelled

Surfing Victoria have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles presented by Rip Curl and Headsox due to the current COVID19 outbreaks in Victoria and New South Wales.

The event was due to be held at Bells Beach on Wadawurrung Country on September 10 – 12, 2021 after being postponed from earlier in the year due to COVID19 restrictions in Victoria.

“We are shattered to have to cancel this incredible event for the second year running,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“The event is a true gathering of Indigenous surfers from around Australia on Wadawurrung Country, however the health and safety of competitors, staff and the community is our top priority.”

“Thank you to all competitors and event partners for their patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing everyone return to Bells Beach in 2022!”

The fundraiser that was organised by Surfing Victoria to help with the travel costs of competitors will be remain open until next year’s event.

75% of competitors had already made the trip to Victoria when the lockdown announcement was made in May. To help alleviate some of the financial burden Surfing Victoria are aiming to raise $25,000 to be split equally across the field, in order to subsidise travel expenses for the next event.
