200 of the top junior surfers from across the country are set to arrive in Victoria next week with the Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island presented by Bass Coast Shire Council kicking off on Tuesday.

As a 10,000 point Marquee event on the Surfing Australia National Rankings, the event is only one of five events of this caliber in the country and will provide surfers with valuable rankings points in their quest for a spot in the Irukandjis team heading to the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.

Victorian hopeful Ava Holland (Mornington Peninsula, VIC), is currently ranked 7th in the Under 18 Girls and will be looking for a big win on home soil in order to jump the rankings.

“I’m so excited for the Rip Curl GromSearch at Phillip island, I’ve been looking forward to this event for a while now,” said Holland.

“As well as it being such a high ranked event, making it super handy for Victorian surfers like me. I can’t wait for the event, it’s going to be a great week.”

Featuring Boys and Girls divisions for Under 18, Under 16 and Under 14 divisions, the event will run over the Victorian school holidays from October 1 – 5, 2024.

Queensland’s Mitchell Peterson (Noosaville) has finished in the top three at two 10,000 rated events this year and is looking to crack his first win of the year at Phillip Island.

“I can’t wait to get down to Phillip Island,” said Peterson.

“I’ve had a great year and had some good results making the final at the Skullcandy, however i’m super motivated to get a win to finish off the year.”

“There are some epic waves down there, and it’s such a cool place to visit. Hopefully we score some pumping Woolamai!”

The event will be webcasted for the final two days of the event via Streamer. Full details including live scores and schedule can be found at www.surfingvic.com/ripcurlgromsearchphillipisland

“It’s exciting to be hosting the best 200 junior surfers from around the country in Victoria for the week,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“The level of talent across the country is improving year on year and it will be incredible to watch the action over the week.”

“Not only will the event showcase incredible surfing, it is a key part of our junior surfing pathway and gives our young aspiring athletes a chance to earn valuable points in their home state.”

Rip Curl GromSearch Phillip Island presented by Bass Coast Shire Council and supported by the Victorian Government Significant Sporting Events program, Park Lane Phillip Island, Cancer Council Sunscreen, GoPro, SurfBetterNow.com and Surfing Victoria.
